Devils Lake, ND Fishing Report

by Devils Lake, ND CVB

This past week has been good for walleye fishing. The water temps are starting to pick up and some of the back-bay areas have reached 60-64 degrees. Look to target these areas in the late morning/afternoon. Anglers have been having luck pitching jigs and plastics in these areas. Try to find areas with any kind of weed structure that will hold fish. Don’t be afraid to throw a slip bobber out with a leech once you find a walleye or two in an area. It seems the slower presentation of a leech and bobber works best after our windier days or after the temps have dropped. Try using just a plain hook or a very small jig underneath the slip bobber.
Vertical Jigging and slip bobbering the shorelines and rip-rap along the bridges has worked well in the evenings too. Look to target that 24-30ft of water early on and as the sun sets move in closer to shore as the walleyes are coming in to feed. Blade baits like jigging raps have been working well in these areas as well.

If you are looking to come try your luck at pike, throw on a crank bait or a jig with any kind of paddle tail and just start pitching almost any shoreline. Make sure to tie yourself up a leader as these pike are very aggressive and nothing short of fun to catch!

As the weather turns into a summer pattern look for the walleyes to become more active throughout the whole day.
