Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
Temperatures are cooling off this week and will be in the 50’s and 60’s. The fishing report hasn’t changed much but with the cooler weather, the fall bite *should* be picking up. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, fishing is picking up a bit. Anglers are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs, with some anglers using minnows. Depths are 10-20 feet of water on the main lake and in the tributaries.
At Akaska the fishing is decent. Depths are 10-15 feet of water. Anglers are using bouncers with mostly minnows.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is okay. Anglers are fishing in 10-25 feet of water and using mainly crawlers and some minnows. The smallmouth, catfish, and northern bites are good right now. From West Whitlock Recreation area: The West Whitlock Salmon Station's spawn dates (fish and weather dependent) will be the following Wednesdays - Oct. 13, Oct. 20, Oct. 27, and Nov. 3. On spawning day, the building will be closed to the public due to safety concerns but there is a CCTV system set up on a large TV outside of the building for visitors to view what is happening inside. The fish ladder and observation deck are open to the public any time. Biologists are expecting a good return of Chinook Salmon this year. Around Spring Creek / Cow Creek the fishing is decent. Anglers are fishing in depths around 20 feet of water. Many are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs.
Around Pierre/Fort Pierre the fishing is decent. Anglers are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers, crankbaits, or pulling plugs in 10-20 feet of water.
Around Chamberlain the fishing is okay. Depths are around 15-25 feet of water. Anglers are using jigs and crawlers or bouncers and crawlers.
On Francis Case in the Platte area, the fishing is decent. The bite is starting to pick up as the weather cools off. Anglers are fishing in 15-30 feet of water, and many are having success pulling plugs.
In the Lake Andes, Wagner, Pickstown areas, the fishing is fair. Anglers are trying all kinds of things. Some are casting to shore or pulling plugs in 4-10 feet of water. Some are jigging in 20-30 feet of water. It’s a great time to spend with friends and family. Watchable wildlife just adds to the fun.
At Yankton, the bite is decent. Anglers are using a variety of approaches including bouncers with spinners and crawlers, jigs with crawlers, or Lindy rigs with crawlers and having success. Most anglers are fishing in 20-30 feet of water.

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
This week starts with a couple hot days and the rest of the week looks to be in the 60’s and 70’s with possibly a little rain sprinkled in. The bite is starting to pick up in some areas as the weather cools down for fall. Remember water or Gatorade, bug spray, and sunscreen. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the bite is picking up. Depths are 10-20 feet of water on the main lake and in the tributaries. Anglers are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs. Minnows are also being used by some anglers with success.
At Akaska the fishing is decent. Anglers are using bouncers with mostly minnows and fishing in 8-10 feet of water.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is okay. Anglers are fishing in 10-25 feet of water and using mainly crawlers and some minnows. The smallmouth, catfish, and northern bites are good right now. Some salmon are coming in and have been nice looking fish.
Around Spring Creek / Cow Creek the fishing is decent. Anglers are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs. Depths are around 20 feet of water. The salmon bite is slowing way down in this area.

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
Even though the week starts with cool and rainy weather, the rest of the week looks to be in the 70’s and 80’s with near perfect weather for spending some time on the water. The bite is starting to pick up a bit as the weather cools down for fall. Remember water or Gatorade, bug spray, and sunscreen. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the bite is picking up. Depths are 10-20 feet of water on the main lake and in the tributaries. Anglers are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs. Minnows are also being used by some anglers with success.

Around Pierre/Fort Pierre the fishing is good. Anglers are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers in depths around 10-20 feet of water. Some anglers are also using crankbaits or pulling plugs.

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
This week temperatures will range from the 70’s to the mid 90’s. The bite will start to pick up a bit more as the weather cools down for fall. We’re not quite there yet but its coming. Anglers will still want to bring plenty of water or Gatorade, bug spray, and sunscreen along. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing is okay. Depths are 30-45 feet of water on the main lake and 10-20 feet of water in the tributaries. Anglers are using bouncer/spinner/crawler rigs or crankbaits.
At Akaska the fishing is fair. Anglers are fishing 30-40 feet of water and using bouncers with spinners and crawlers or minnows.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is alright. Anglers are fishing in 30-40 feet of water and using mainly crawlers and some minnows. The smallmouth and catfish bites are still good right now. Salmon are just starting. Anglers are primarily using crocodile spoons. A few salmon have been caught from shore but most are still being caught from a boat and are looking nice.

Temperatures this week will be in the 90’s and maybe a bit less sweltering than last week. Stay safe in the heat. Bring plenty of water or Gatorade, bug spray, and sunscreen along. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing has slowed. Limits can be had if anglers put in the time. Depths are 25-40 feet of water. Bouncers with spinners and crawlers are working the best. Jigging and pulling crankbaits deep are also working well.
At Akaska the fishing has slowed. Anglers are fishing 25-40 feet of water. Most are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Some anglers are using crankbaits with success. Some sorting is necessary.
At Gettysburg, the bigger fish are deep. Anglers are fishing in 30-50 feet of water and using mainly crawlers. Pulling plugs is also working well. Sometimes anglers can find fish in the 10-15 foot depths, but the bigger fish are deeper. The smallmouth and catfish bites are still good right now.

SD MISSOURI RIVER FISHING/HUNTING REPORT – July 19, 2021

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
HOT is the order of things this week with most days above 100 degrees. Bring plenty of water or Gatorade, bug spray, and sunscreen along. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing is good. Limits can be had if anglers put in the time. Depths are 25-35 feet of water on the main lake and 10-20 feet of water in the tributary rivers. Anglers are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Crank baits are also working well.
At Akaska the fishing is good. Anglers are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Depths are around 20-30 feet of water. Some sorting is necessary.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is very good. Minnows, lots of crawlers, and some leeches are being used. Anglers are fishing in 15-25 feet of water and those who like pulling plugs are doing quite well. The smallmouth and catfish bites are hot right now and a new state record smallmouth with a weight of 7 lbs 4.7 oz. was caught last week!
Around Spring Creek / Cow Creek the fishing is pretty good. Anglers can use the presentation of their choice and do well. Depths are generally 25-30 feet of water.
Around Pierre/Fort Pierre the fishing is good. Anglers are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers, but most presentations are working. Depths are 10-15 feet of water.
Around Chamberlain the fishing is pretty good. Anglers are fishing in 10-25 feet of water near the channel edges or closer to shore and using jigs and crawlers or bouncers and crawlers.
On Francis Case in the Platte area, the fishing is really good. Some anglers are pulling crankbaits and many are using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Anglers are fishing in depths of anywhere from 10-30 feet of water.
In the Lake Andes, Wagner, Pickstown areas, the fishing is great. Anglers are fishing in 10-25 feet of water using minnows or crawlers and jigs or bouncers with spinners, with some anglers using leeches or pulling plugs. Catfish and bluegill are also biting. Anglers are enjoying good fishing above and below the dam. Lots of boats are going out so please practice patience at the boat ramps and cleaning stations.
At Yankton fishing is pretty good. Anglers are using crawlers or leeches with a bouncer and spinner. Depths are 5-15 feet of water. Some anglers are also doing well with crankbaits.

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
The weather this week is mostly 90’s. Bring plenty of water, bug spray, and sunscreen along. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing has slowed but anglers are still getting limits of nice fish. Anglers are fishing the main lake points in 25-35 feet of water and using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Crank baits are also working well.
At Akaska the fishing is good. Anglers are fishing in 20-30 feet of water. Bouncers with spinners and crawlers or leeches are working well. Some sorting is necessary and some nice bigger fish are coming in.

Fishing Update for The Missouri River in South Dakota
The weather this week is a mixed bag with temperatures all over the place and even a chance of rain. Bring plenty of water, bug spray, and sunscreen along. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Enjoy some time outdoors on the Missouri River in central South Dakota and good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing has slowed considerable but anglers are still getting limits of nice fish. Anglers are fishing the main lake points in 25-35 feet of water and using bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Crank baits are also working well.
At Akaska the fishing is good. Anglers are fishing in 20-30 feet of water. Bouncers with spinners and crawlers or leeches are working well. Some sorting is necessary and some nice bigger fish are coming in.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is very good from Sutton Bay and south. Minnows, lots of crawlers, and some leeches are being used. Anglers are fishing in 15-25 feet of water and those who like pulling plugs are doing quite well. Shore fishing is still going well. Smallmouth and a few northern pike are coming in also.

Temperatures this week will be in the 90’s and 100’s. Bring plenty of water, bug spray, and sunscreen along. With good fishing everywhere, now is the time to enjoy the outdoors and get out on the Missouri River in central South Dakota. Expect busy boat ramps and fish cleaning stations. Good luck catching!
In the Pollock and Mobridge areas, the fishing is good. Anglers are fishing in 10-20 feet of water and using jigs or bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Many anglers are heading south of town.
At Akaska the fishing is pretty good. Anglers are fishing in 10-20 feet of water. Bouncers with spinners and crawlers or leeches are working well. Some sorting is necessary and some nice bigger fish are coming in.
At Gettysburg, the fishing is very good. Anglers are just about any live bait. Depths are 10-20 feet of water. Shore fishing is better in the morning and is still going well. Anglers that are after other species are also bringing in plenty of smallmouth and catfish too.
