An additional 20 private shooting/game preserves will be available in South Dakota, bringing the state’s total to 215. The new addition will cover 18,000 acres of land. It’s the highest number of preserves added to the list since 2010.
It was reported that SD Game, Fish and Parks preserve-program coordinator, Jennelle Blaha indicated the preserves would help aid in economic recovery for the state’s struggling big populations.
Upwards of 130 private game preserves are situation along the Missouri River in South Dakota.
According to required reports, of the 440,000 rooster pheasants released on the preserves last year, more than 280,000 of them were shot. It’s estimated that 90 percent of the birds are raised in pens.
